When anxiety defies logic—what should you do?

Anxiety is a strange phenomenon.
Sometimes there’s a perfectly clear reason for it, such as an important meeting ahead, changes in life, or uncertainty about the future.
Other times, however, anxiety seems to come out of nowhere.

You wake up in the morning and already feel restless. Your body is tense. Your mind starts searching for a reason, but can't find one...

By definition, anxiety is a natural psychological and physiological reaction that occurs in situations we perceive as uncertain, dangerous, or uncontrollable.

The roots of anxiety lie in our evolution. When early humans sensed danger (such as a predator), a fight-or-flight response (fight-or-flight).

  • my heart started beating faster
  • her breathing quickened
  • my muscles tensed up

If the reason isn't logical

Sometimes the cause of anxiety isn't in the present moment at all. It may be related to something that has already happened:

  • ideas that haven't been fully developed
  • unresolved relationships whose effects linger
  • internal conflicts
  • something I don't know what to call

Anxiety as a Message to You

We live in a world where people try to quickly “solve” their anxiety and “get themselves back on track.” But what if anxiety is actually a signal? A signal that there is tension somewhere that needs attention.

A sign that something important has been overlooked.

A sign that some part of you wants to come to the surface.

The fact that not everything—especially the world of our emotions—can always be approached through logic makes working with anxiety seem particularly difficult.

However, many therapeutic methods, such as constellation work, are able to work through this “illogical feeling” via the world of emotions.

If reason hasn't helped come up with a solution, maybe it's time to try something else.
